Synopsis

This book is about the first India- Pakistan war that happened soon after both nations became independent of British colonial rule. Written by Akbar Khan, this is about how Lashkars (Army regulars) aling with the Pashtoon tribesmen invaded the Kashmir valley in 1947 to liberate it from the clutches of the then ruler Maharaja Hari Singh. Akbar Khan's who headed this invasion wrote his own book Raiders in Kashmir that gives a thorough account of his role in the Pakistani attack on Maharaja Hari Singh's princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Akbar Khan, then a Brigadier, assumed command of the regulars and irregulars fighting against the Indian forces and was given the code name "General Tariq". This book tells an interesting account of how it all happened and how the 2 nations inherited the seemingly insurmountable problem in Kashmir.
